How many electrons are transferred from one acetyl group when it is converted to two carbon dioxide molecules in the citric acid cycle?

Why is the answer : 8 ? can you anyone explain it? Thank you

Solution

At the end of the Krebs cycle, all the carbon from glucose has been released as carbon dioxide.they are 8 electrons transferred from one acetyl group when it is converted into two carbon dioxide molecules in the citric acid cycle. In citric acid cycle, 3 NAD and 1FAD release from NADH AND FADH2 each releases 2 electrons total of 8. The reactions where the electrons transferred are at oxidative decarboxylation which converts pyruvate to acetyl coA, oxdative decarboxylation which converts alpha ketoglutarate to succnyl coA, oxidation which converts L- malate to oxaloacetate and oxidation which converts succinate to fumarate.
