Please answer 3 and 4
How many chromosomes would occur in: Primary spermatocyte at G2 Secondary oocyte at metaphase Kidney cell at GI The artic fox has 50 chromosomes and the common red fox has 38 chromosomes. These species can interbreed to produce viable but infertile offspring. How many chromosomes would occur in the gametes of: Artic fox Common red fox How many chromosomes would the infertile hybrid offspring have? What problems do you think may occur during mciosis that would explain the hybrid offspring\'s infertility? The pRb protein is regulated by covalent modification. Phosphorylation of the pRb prevents its association with E2F. During which phase of the cell cycle is pRb first phosphorylated and by which cyclin-CDK complex? What consequence does phosphorylation of pRB have on cell cycle progression?Solution
Answer 3:
The arctic fox has 50 Chromosomes
The common red fox has 38 Chromosomes
A. No of chromosomes in the gametes of:
Arctic fox = 25 Chromosomes
Common red fox: 19 Chromosomes
B. Infertile hybrid offspring would have 44 Chromosomes
C. The hybrid is infertile because during the gamete formation the chromosomes can not segregate properly due to unequal no of maternal and paternal chromosomes. In other words, lack of homologous chromosomes leads to failure of meiosis, thus, gametes do not form and the hybrid is sterile.
