Electromigration failures depend exponentially on temperatur
Electromigration failures depend exponentially on temperature.
a. What is the ratio of the MTFs of identical aluminum conductors operating at the same current density at 300K and 400K?
b. At 77K (liquid nitrogen temperature) and 400K? Use Ea=0.5 eV. Comment on importance of temperature.
Solution
A) (MTF2/MTF1)=exp(-0.5/k)(1/T2-1/T1)
For T2=300k and T1=400k.
The ratio is 126.
For T2=77k and T1=400k
the ratio is 2.67*1026!
