Design a lambda_g/4 transmission line at 2.45 GHz with a 50 Ohm characteristic impedance. The substrate thickness is 31 mils, with epsilon_r = 2.55. Suppose now that the microstrip line is connected before the resistor from Figure 1(a). Determine the scattering matrix at 2.45 GHz. Simulate the circuit using ADS and verify your results.

Solution

Given,

Frequency F= 2.15 GHz

characterstic impedance at frequency F= Zof= 50 ohm

substrate thickness in millimeters B=31

relative permittivity Er= 2.55

From the figure, we can say

ratio of trace width to substrate thickness need to found out U

We have from above,

U1 = U + [Tln( 1+ 4e/T Tanh2 ((6.517U)^0.5) ] / pie

The scattering matrix width is the trace width to ssubstrate thickness.
