You stop at a pizza shop Where each pizza is cut into 8 slices. Would you be more filled by eating one slice from a pizza with a 16 inch diameter or two slices from a pizza with a 12 inch diameter. In other words, use the area of a sector formula to determine which has a larger area?

Solution

A round pizza cut into 8 slices

1 slice pizza with   16 inch dia-----( slice is 1/8th of a circle)

2 slice pizza with 12 inch dia-----( slice is 1/8th of a circle)

Area of slice 16 inch dia ----(1/8)*pi*(16/2)^2

= 25.12 inch^2

Area of 2 slices 12 inch dia ----2x (1/8)*pi*(12/2)^2

= 28.27 inch^2

So we can see Area of 2 slices 12 inch dia is more than Area of slice 16 inch dia

So we would be filled by 2 slices of 12 inch dia pizza
