An oil tanker is being filled with oil at a rate of roughly 170 190 Litres/minute. The oil comes from a vertical, cylindrical vessel (at atmospheric pressure) with 8 metres diameter.
A flow meter can be used to measure the actual filling rate. Manufacturer data shows that the flow meter is 95% accurate when measuring flow rate between 150 200 litres/minute. A level gauge can be used to measure the amount of oil being drained from the oil vessel. Manufacturer data shows that the level gauge is accurate within 4mm at any height.
Which of the above measurement device will you choose for more accurate result, if it takes 15 minutes to fill the tank For simplicity, assume that the time taken from zero flow to reach the maximum filling rate is negligible. ? Support your answer with calculation for full mark.
