Generally, the signboard should be placed 50 m from the point of merging and here the merge sign can be read from a distance of 50 m. So, the signboard should be placed at a distance of 100 m from the point of merging which is indicated in red color in the figure. And according to IRC 67-2001 code of practice, the sight distance is around 100 m for the design speed of 100 kmph. So, it should be placed at a distance of 150 m from the point X. Overall. the signboard can be placed at a distance from 100-200 m from point X, preferably at 150 m from the point X.
