Decreased Na+ and water reaborption due to the use of loop diuretics and thiazides __________ the concentration gradient of the interstitial fluid, thereby _____________ the osmotic force at the collecting tubule and duct.

Solution

Decreased Na+ and water reabsorption due the use of loop diuretics and thiazides decreases the concentration of the interstitial fluid, thereby increases the osmotic force at the collecting tubule and duct. When loop diuretics and thiazides are given to a patient, it inhibit the reabsorption of Na+ ion and water from urine in the collecting tubule and duct to the interstitial flud, which causes higher concentration of ions in collecting tubule. Hence when concentration inside collecting tubule increases, the osmotic force increases at the collecting tubule due to which movement of more water from interstitial fluid to collecting duct occurs and hence formation of more urine occurs.

Decreased Na+ and water reaborption due to the use of loop diuretics and thiazides __________ the concentration gradient of the interstitial fluid, thereby ____
