In the following circuit schematic Calculate the impedance of the resistor, capacitor, and inductor. Which will have the largest impedance if the power supply frequency is doubled?

Solution

a)

Impedance of resistor, R = 3000 ohm

Impedance of capacitor, Xc = 1/(2*pi*f*C)

So, Xc = 1/(2*pi*40*1*10^-6) = 3988 ohm

Impedance of inductor, Xl = 2*pi*f*L

So, Xl = 2*pi*40*0.001 = 0.25 ohm

b)

If freqeuncy is doubled,

R = 3000 ohm <----- it remains constant as it does not depend on frequency

Xc = 1/(2*pi*(2*40)*1*10^-6) = 1989.4 ohm

Xl = 2*pi*f*L= 2*pi*(2*40)*0.001 = 0.5 ohm

So, resistor will have maximum impedance
