5. (10 pts) (Sampling) A sampling system is operated at a sampling time of 0.01sec. What is the cutoff frequency of the anti-aliasing filter?

Solution

fs=1/sampling time =1/0.01 =100 hz.

nyquist frequency fn=fs/2=100/2=50Hz.

for absolutely no aliasing in the filter we should select cutoff frequency fc such that the nyquist frequency must be in between the fc and 2*fc.

i.e.... 2*fc-fn=fn-fc

fc=2*fn/3

=2*50/3

fc=34Hz......
