Panther Biosystems inc is approaching the end stages of their design schemes for three
new products. The first is a metal composite knee joint, the other is a polymer composite
catheter for cardiac diagnostics, and the third is an arthroscope for arthroscopic shoulder
and knee surgery. Decisions concerning sterilization of each product are critical. Propose
at least one sterilization technique for each and provide the scientific rationale for your
proposal.

Chemical treatment

For the composite knee joint --heating can damage the material and change the elastic parameters so you dont want this. Use Chemical treatment with antiseptics and UV, or gamma radiation

For the polymer comosite catheter use antiseptics solutions, and wash with distilled H2O. Disposable catheters are an option, or use Ag and TiO coatings ( ref Yao 2008).

For the arthscope infection with bacteria and spores should be removed by alcohol, H2O2 and other solution and then cleaned with distilled or tap water. Soap and water folowed by alcohol is recommended, by medical guidelines in various reports..
