Explain not list two ways sexual reproduction including meio

Explain (not list) two ways sexual reproduction, including meiosis, can cause offspring to be genetically different from their parents.

Solution

Answer:

Sexual reproduction including meiosis can cause offsprings to be genetically different from their parents via different mechanisms. For example during the Meosis I (in Prophase) chromosomal crossover can happen, that is the homologous pair of chromosomes can cross over with each other (at points called chiasma) and during this proces they can exchange chromosomal segments leading to genetic diversity. Thus offspring can get new traits as a result of combination of genes.

Another mechanism that contributes to genetic diversity is the random contribution of the genes to the zygote from each parent during fertilization (independent assortment). This happens because any set of genes has an equal likelihood of combining to form the offspring.
