Please answer 13.13. I do not need 13.65.

13.13 One portion of the research described in a paper by Yean-Jye Lu involved an evaluation of maneuver times for vehicles of various sizes that were involved in making a left turn at arn intersection with a separate left-turn lane but without a separate left-turn phase on the traffic light governing the intersection (an \"unprotected\" le ft-turn maneuver). The maneuver time was measured from the instant that a vehicle entered the opposing lanes of traffic until it completely cleared the intersection. Four-cylinder automobiles were classified as \"small cars\" and six- or eight-cylinder automobiles as \"large cars.\" Trucks and buses were combined to form a third category identified as \"truck or bus.\" Other motorized vehicles (motorcycles, etc.) were ignored in the study. A summary of the data, giving maneuver times (in seconds) for vehicles that attempted the left-turn maneuver from a standing stop, appears in the accompanying table Vehicle Type Sample Size Mea Standard Deviation Small car Large car Truck or bus 0.70 45 102 4.59 6.24 0.90 a Is there sufficient evidence to claim that the mean maneuver times differ for the three vehicle types? Give bounds for the attained significance level. b Indicate the appropriate conclusion for an =.05 level test 13.65 Refer to Exercise 13.13. Construct confidence intervals for all possible differences between mean maneuver times for the three vehicle classes so that the simultaneous confidence coeff cient is at least .95. Interpret the results

Solution

Sol)

Null Hypothesis: There is no difference between all the three means

Alternative hypothesis:There is a difference between all the three means

Level of significance: 0.05

Test Statistic:

We use ANOVA one way Classification

Source of Variation     Sum of Squares d.f.         MS          F                  P

1)Between Groups            36.2855              2           18.14       38.322       0.0000

2) With in Groups             76.6997             162         0.4735

3)Total                             112.9851            164

Hence F cal =38.322

P vaue=0.00000  and level of significance= 0.05.

Conclusion: P value < level of significance, then we donot accept the null hypothesis.

Hence There is a difference between all the three means.
