In the tetrahedral shaped CH_3Cl molecule the central carbon atom makes three C-H bonds and one C-Cl bond. Is the CH_3Cl molecule polar or non-polar? polar non-polar This is not the right answer, Do NOT click this answer!

Solution

Polar means having electrical or magnetic polarity.

Methane (CH4) is a non polar molecule because of equal sharing of hydrogen on central C atom.

In CH3Cl Chlorine atom on one side and Hydrogen atoms on the other.

Because of the difference in electronegativities there will be two poles and CH3Cl is therefore a polar molecule.
