Solution

a) streak plate-It is easy to find contaminants on the steak plates as the contaminants usually grow on an area which has has not streaked. The contaminants grow on the plate around the steaking area.

b) Pour plate-The contaminants can be identify on the pour plate by colour, size, shape and growth rate as the colour and size of the contaminants differ from the colonies of the isolates.

c) Spread plates-The contaminants can be identified on the basis of number of colonies present on the plate. If the particular kind of growth or number of colonies expected for the organism is less then it indicate presence of contaminants. Also the contaminant will vary in shape so the appearance of colonies can be easily distinguished.
