1. Orthologs: These are genes found in different species that resulted from speciation of a common ancestral gene. During this event of evolution, the orthologs retain their original function.

2. Paralogs: These genes are resulted from duplication event with a genome. And during the evolution, paralogs evolve to attain new function unlike orthologs.
