Based on the total crosssectional area of different airways

Based on the total cross-sectional area of different airways, where is the velocity of air flow highest and lowest? What physiologic system is this similar to?

Solution

This system is similar to respiratory physiology . Air will flow from high pressure to low pressure, so when air flows through larger surface area like trachea , the flow is disorganised and pressure will be more and hence velocity is more. In contrast, bronchioles have low surface area , so low pressure and hence less velocity. Hence velocity of airflow is large in trachea and less in bronchioles.
