EO is an 8yearold girl with a history of asthma and allergy
E.O. is an 8-year-old girl with a history of asthma and allergy to bee stings. She has been brought to the clinic complaining of a throat infection. Her health care provider prescribes a course of penicillin to manage her current infection and cautions her parents to watch her closely for a reaction.
A. Risk factors, diagnostic tests, treatment and clinical management plan
Highlight any risk factors that might exist, existing medical conditions, present signs and symptoms or complains that the patient is suffering from.
Analyze the results of any diagnostic tests that were performed. Diagnostic tests include, physical exams, blood test, radiologic tests (x-ray, CT scans, etc.), and other functional tests.
Relate the medical treatment used to the underlying pathology.
Propose clinical management plan for the patient’s condition, and possible prognosis.
questions- Hypersensitivity type one (I) reactions- antibody and cell mediator(s) involved, and adverse reaction to antibiotics.
Solution
The risk factor that might exist during medical conditions present signs and symptoms that patient is suffering from is abdominal cramping, itiching, redness and rash, diarrhea, vomiting, and difficulty breathing. These reactions may occur immediatly,or up to a few hours after the dose. If these are delayed reactions are just as serious reaction. as the medication is done daily seven to ten times a day, during medication watch carefully if any reaction occurs for each dose. The test that were performed is blood test, and histamine test ( is useful for mast cell activation). The related medical treatments that are used is immunotherapy, based on our greater understanding of the balance between Th1 and Th2 cells and of the cytokines that they produce; and targeting and blocking the effects of bradykinin, substance P, leukotrienes, IgE antibody. During the hypersensitivity 1 reaction there is a joining in IgE receptors which is the main antibodoies and the antigens on mast cell. intracellular calcium is produced as a result, causing a degranulation ofcertain mediators, such as histamine during the union between the IgE receptors and the antigens on mast cell take place. histamine is a type of mediators in hypersensitivity 1 which bound with different histamine receptors which causes reactions in different body parts like H1, H2, H3 and H4. In this case she is prone to having a reaction to this antibiotic. As her health conditions she is prescribed to have Zithromax, an antibiotic that is given to those who have an allergy to penicillin, To prevent hypersensitivity 1 reactions they should advise her parents to always carry an Epipen in case E.O experiences.
