When Anna uses her car on a business trip, she is allowed to claim 68 cent per km for the first 80 km and 42 cent per kilometre for the rest of the journey.

(i) How much can she claim for a 135 km journey?

(ii) on one occassion she claimed 119.08 euro. How far did she travel?

Let total number of kms be x km

Therefore the equation that to represents the amount she claim

y= 68*80 + 42(x-80)

1) y= 68*80 +42(135-80)

        = 5440 + 42(55)= 5440 + 2310= 7750 cents= 77.50 euro

2) 119.08 euro= 11908 cents

11908= 68*80 + 42(x-80)

11908= 5440 + 42x- 3360

11908= 2080 +42x

11908-2080=42x

9828=42x

x=234

For claiming 119.08 euro she have to travel 234 kms
