Solution
1. Metabolic pathway- It compises of a sequence of biochemical reactions that take place in living cells and are catalyzed by enzymes. There is exchange of energy and chemicals in these pathways. They help to convert substrates into useful materials. Metabolic pathways can be catabolic (release energy) or anabolic (require energy). Photosynthesis and respiration are metabolic pathways.
2. Photosynthesis- It is the process through which plants make their own food. Plants, some bacteria and protists convert light energy into chemical energy to prepare their food. The light capturing pigment chlorophyll plays an important role in this process. In green plants, photosynthesis takes place in the chloroplast.
3. Cell Respiration- It is the process in which food molecules are broken down into carbon dioxide and water. It is a catabolic pathway in which there is release of energy which is stored in the form of ATP.
4. Anabolic pathway- Anabolic pathways use energy to build new materials. Energy is provided by ATP and high energy molecules like NADPH OR NADH. The micromolecules are used to maintain the cell or to build new cell structures. Photosynthesis is an anbolic pathway.
