You have 100 mL of solution with a concentration of 150 mol

You have 100 mL of solution with a concentration of 1.50 mol L-1. You pipette 10 mL of this solution to a 50 mL volumetric flask and top up the rest with water to the 50 mL mark. What is the concentration of the diluted solution?

Select one:

a. 0.75 mol L-1

b. 1.50 mol L-1

c. 0.30 mol L-1

d. 0.15 mol L-1

Solution

Concentration = 150/100 mL

Hence in 10mL quantity of concentratin = 150*10/100 = 15 mol

Water added = 40 mL

Hence new concentration = 15/(40+10) = 0.30 mol/litre

Hence option C is the answer

You have 100 mL of solution with a concentration of 1.50 mol L-1. You pipette 10 mL of this solution to a 50 mL volumetric flask and top up the rest with water
