In reproductive cloning, why do we need to use an egg cell from another slang! (i.e. the Scottish Blackface sheep) in order to clone the cell of the nuclear donor (the Finn-Dorset sheep)?

Solution

- In reproductive cloning, the egg cell from another donor, i.e Scottish Blackface Sheep (surrogate mother) is used in order to clone the cell of the nuclear donor of Finn-Dorset Sheep.

- This is because the physical characteristics were different in case of both the sheep and it would be easy to spot the lineage of the born alive lamb. And it also known that Scottish Blackface Sheep are highly capable of accepting a transferred embryo.

Supportive Information: Scientists used udder cells from the Finn-Dorset White sheep, and kept them alive without growing by altering the growth medium. Then they injected these cells into an unfertilized egg cell with its nucleus removed and made both the cells to fuse using electric impulses. The used unfertilized egg cells derived from the Scottish Blackface sheep (a common breed of sheep in Scotoland).
