Dominant cultures have dictated in history what is acceptable in history; they have assumed the traits of the main culture.They have done this to merge and support one common culture. When a person can identify with their culture, they are able to identify with their sense of self and they can relate with people better. When a person has a strong cultural identity feeling, and they can identify that feeling, they will have a sense of belonging and support.
A person’s cultural identity might change over time because they might choose to move to a different location. When they move, they do not they leave their beliefs behind. If they are leaving their home because they are distressed, they are might not know that they are looking for something new until they find it in the new culture they get to. Also, if a person does not agree completely with the way they were raised, they could choose to leave their faith.
