Two drugs (zidovudine and didanosine) were investigated for their effectiveness in preventing progression of HIV in children. In a double blind study 276 children with HIV were given zidovudine. 2S1 were given didanosine. and 274 were given zidovudine plus didanosine. The survival data for the three goups are given in the table below. Conduct an analysis to determine if survival differs among treatments. Provide Null And Alternate Hypothesis, Results .And Explain Your Inference

Solution

H0: The survival rate is the same among treatments

Ha: atleast two treatments have different means

(Two tailed chi square test)

--------------------------------------------

The chi-square statistic is 4.9782. The p-value is .082985. The result is not significant at p < .05.

Hence accept null hypothesis.
