Explain the thermodynamic relationship concepts behind an air conditioner. Would it be effective to put an air conditioner inside of a room instead of in a window sill? Why?

Solution

In an air conditioner

let us take an example

suppose we have to cool a room to 20 C and outside temperature is 40 C.

then our Ac will have to operate in a temperature range whose lower temp will be less than 20 C and upper temp will be higher than 40 C

refrigerant flowing in Ac reduces its temp to less than 20 C . lets say to 5 C and takes heat from the room (Heat addition to AC cycle) to maintain the temperature to 20 C

And then its refrigerants goes to a higher temp which is more than 40 C lets say 50 C where its reject heat to outside air (when it in window sill).

and that the process how the AC is rejecting heat from a lower temp of room (20C) to higher temp of outside (40C).

accepting heat from room is done with the help of evaporator and rejecting heat to outside is done by condensor.

to bring the temp of refrigerants to 5 C is done by Valve and and raising temp to 50 C is done by compressor.

NOW SUPPOSE AC IS FITTED INSIDE ROOM ONLY

and say right now room temp is at 30 C

so when AC\'s refrigerant will go to 5 C it will cool the room but at very next moment when it will got to 50C then it will again release heat in room only , so overall there will a process of warming the room only.
