A) II only

B) III only

C) IV only

D) V only

E) either II or V

Answer: D

What\'s wrong with E??

If III V VI /1 /N

Solution

Answer

2 chromatids make one chromosome. A diploid cell has 2 chromosomes, hence 4 chromatids.

In mitosis chromatids separate.

The figure II shows that two chromatids of each chromosome are being pulled apart.

In case of meiosis when a cell enters into prophase-1, cell has 4 chromatids similar to mitosis

But during Meiosis-1, the two chromosomes are being separated (Not chromatids as in Mitosis)

Now each cell is left with two chromatids of a single chromosome

During Meiosis-II, the two chromatids are now separated.

Therefore, the diagram II represents the anaphase of Mitosis

Whereas, diagram V correctly represents the anaphase II of Meiosis.
