Write an equation for the hyperbola shown in the graph The e

Write an equation for the hyperbola shown in the graph. The equation for the hyperbola above is = 1.

Solution

Given : asymtotes y = +/-2x

y = +/- bx/a

So, b/a = 2

b^2 = 4a^2

Hypebola has ecntre (0, 0)

Equation would be of the form : x^2/a^2 -y^2/b^2 =1

x^2 /a^2 +y^2/4a^2 =1

x^2 + y^2/4 = a^2 ----(1)

b = 2a

we need one point through which hyperbola passes which is not visble in the diagram

Plug that point and calculate a

Substitute value of a in x^2 /a^2 +y^2/4a^2 =1 and get equation of hyperbola
