Would it be fair if colleges allocated seats in courses on the basis of price? In other words, let students bid for available seats in classes, rather than using a first-come, first-served system based on some sort of administrative procedure. Explain your reasoning.
Solution
No.
Allocating seats to students on the basis of price will not be fair, as it will be a biased allocation towards to wealthier students. Students who would be more deserving but low on wealth would not be able to procure seats in well off colleges they deserve. Instead, low on intelligence but high on wealth will get admissions in better colleges, degrading the college\'s reputation and academic record.
The best way to allocate seats is on the basis of merit. Good scorers should be provided with good colleges, making them better off. This will be good for both the society as well as the individual itself.
