If coil 1 has 500 turns how many turns does coil 2 have If t

If coil 1 has 500 turns, how many turns does coil 2 have? If the turns ratio N N_1/N_2=5 and V_2=240V, what is the current flowing through coil 1?

Solution

a) Given no. of turns of primary coil,N1=500

let N2 be the no of secondary turns

and V1=1200V,V2=240V

we know V2/V1=N2/N1

Therefore,N2=(240/1200)*500=100 turns

b) current in the secondary winding,I2=240/10=24 Amps

therefore,current in the primary winding,I1=I2*(N2/N1)=24*(1/5)=4.8 Amps

I1=4.8 Amps
