A 10-inch concrete slab (elastic modulus = 4 million psi) has been placed on a subgrade with 100 pci modulus of subgrade reaction. The slab is being subjected to a 9,000-lb wheel load at the corner with 6 90 psi tire pressure. Determine the maximum deflection due to this corner loading

Solution

Solution:-

Given

Thickness of pavement (h) = 10 inch

Modulus of elasticity of concrete (Ep) = 4 *106 psi

Modulus of elasticity of subgrade (Es) = 100 pci

Wheel load (P) = 9000 lb

Tire pressure (p) = 690 psi

Radius of wheel load distribution (a) = ?(P/(?p))

a = ?(9000/(?*690)) = 2.037 inch

Es/Ep = 100*10/(4 *106) = 1/4000

From above value

F2 = 0.033   (from graph)

Deflection(?) = 1.18 *p *a/Ep *F2     (for rigid pavement)

Deflection(?) = 1.18 * 690 * 2.037/(4 *106) * 0.033

Deflection (?) = 1.36 *10-5   inch      Answer
