A pistoncylinder device initially contains 04 m3 of air at 1

A piston-cylinder device initially contains 0.4 m^3 of air at 100 kPa and 80 degree C. The air is now compressed to 0.1 m^3 in such a way that the temperature inside the cylinder remains constant. Determine the work done during this process.

Solution

This is an isobaric process...i.e pressure is constant

work done = -nRTlogV2/V1) = -(13.629)(8.314)(353)log(0.1/0.4)

=24kJ

work done = 24KJ

It can be noted that work is done by the system ...so it is negative
