Fertilization in angiosperms is a critical event. The presence of flowers and sexual organs in these plants make it possible for them to undergo sexual reproduction and thus generate genetic variation. The male counterpart of angiosperm gametophyte are called the pollen and the female counterpart is called the ovum. Generally, the pollen becomes motile with wind.The egg is carried in the female gametangi which has three parts, the uppermost stigma where the pollen attaches, the tubular style through which the pollen moves downwards and the lowermost ovary in which the egg is contained and fertilization takes place.
