Solution

Tidal volume is the amount of air expired/inspired in normal breath. It is roughly equal to 500ml. If partial pressure of oxygen decreases, it means that less volume of oxygen is present in same volume of air. The body requires oxygen for its metabolic processes. So, tidal volume should increase to compensate for less oxygen; this means that more amount of air should be inhaled so that requisite amount of oxygen enters the body. This breathing process is known as deep breathing; (practiced by yoga experts). Such situations happen in mountainous regions where oxygen level is low.

This type of breathing is referred to as \'slow deep breathing\'. Breathing is related to heart rate. Beats per minute will be lowered, because slow breathing is there. Less number of beats per minute means heart has to work less for doing the same physical activity that had been done in normal breathing. So, this is important because it will result in a healthy heart.

Note: Slow deep breathing is a healthy exercise, and practiced by yoga experts. In mountainous regions, this practice of slow breathing occurs automatically, making the people living there have more healthy respiratory system and heart.
