A cone and a cylinder have equal bases and equal altitudes. The volume of the cone is what fractional part of the volume of the cylinder?
Solution
let the radious of cylinder and cone = r
height of cylinder and cone = h
as per question we have
volume of cylinder = (pi r^2)*h
volume of cone = (1/3)(pi r^2)*h
volume of cone/volumeof cylinder = ((1/3)(pi r^2)*h)/((pi r^2)*h)
= 1/3 (Ans)
so one third
