Solution
Production should be 1000 units in 8 hours.
Lunch time = 30 min and win breaks = 15 minutes
Hence idle time =30+2(15) = 60 minutes
As plant work at 90% efficiency only, for 1000 units in 8 hours would be practically
1000(90%) = 900 units in 8 hours.
Down time is 15% i.e. actual productive hours per shift = 85% of 8 = 6.8 hours
In 6.8 hours at 90% effcy units produced = 6.8(900) /8=765
and for provision for break and lunch time 1 hour
in 9 hours production =765 units.
Hence for 1000 units hours required = 1000*0.528 = 528 min = 8.8 hours
For 9 hours shift (including lunch and break) actual production =765 units only
Hence for 1000 units = 1000(9)/765 = 11.76471 hours
and 2 machines should be used.
