Name two similarities between the Rankine, air-standard Diesel and air-standard Otto cycles. (Extra credit for each extra similarity)

SIMILARITY

1. In both air standard cycle ( otto and diesel) and rankine cycle expansion and compression process is isentropic process.

2. In both the cycle internal irreversibility is assumed to be neglected. it means that there is no pressure drop in fluid while passing through various devices. but on other hand external irreversibility is present in both the cycle (means heat transfer is occur).

If we take the case of ideal cycle i.e carnot cycle where both internal as well as external irreversibility is neglected. which is impossible to achieve. that why carnot cycle has maximum efficiency.
