For the tensile stressstrain curves shown all the same scale

For the tensile stress-strain curves shown (all the same scale), answer the following questions: Characterize the material for each tensile test as brittle or ductile Which material is stiffest? Which is the most ductile? Which has the greatest yield strength? Which has the greatest ultimate strength Which has the greatest fracture strength? Which has the greatest modulus of resilience Which has the greatest modulus of toughness?

Solution

By Observing the curves of the three materials

a) Material A &B are brittle because both materials fractures after crossing yielding part where as material C is ductile.

b) Material C is the most stiffest material as it has highest slope value in elastic region .

c) Material C has more ductility nature.

d) Material B has highest yield strength.

e) Material C has highest ultimate strength

f) Material B has highest fracture strength

g) Material A has highest modules of resilience as it has more area under stress strain curve upto elastic region( straight line portion in stress strain curve)

h) Material C has highest modulus of toughness as it has more area under stress strain curve upto fracture region

For the tensile stress-strain curves shown (all the same scale), answer the following questions: Characterize the material for each tensile test as brittle or
