(This is technically my microbiology lab but it seems like more of a stats question so that\'s why I posted it here but whoever answers this will get a lot of point but I need every thing answered and I need it to be 100% correct, thanks.)
Each student (S)(n=9) obtains 1 ml saliva for fructose treatment and 1 ml saliva for lactose treatment. An aliquot of the saliva is diluted 1:100 and the optical density (OD600 nm) is determined at time 0 and another aliquot is take and diluted after 24h of incubation. The OD measurement correlates to the amount of bacteria in the saliva. During the incubation time the samples are incubated with different sugars (0.1M) to determine whether it is healthier to eat fruits (fructose) or drink milk (lactose). In this study healthy is determined as having less bacteria in your mouth that can potentially cause caries.
You want to determine whether there is a significant difference in the growth of oral bacteria within 24h.
Calculate the mean of the repeats (each student represents one repeat) for each time point and each sugar. Calculate all STDEVs (5 points)
Graph the mean and STDEV Time vs OD for both treatments (5 points)
Calculate the growth rate from both curves/treatments. Calculate the growth rate according to the formula used in the module, using excel. Submit your spreadsheet with the answers. (5 points)
Interpret the results
