Assume you are talking to a layperson about statistics. In no less than 5 sentences, and in your own words, explain what is meant by the statistical power of an experiment.
Solution
Statistical power is the the likelihood of supporting a claim that is, at the same time, true.
It is a measure of how reliable a your conclusion in the experiment is.
For example, say you have an experiment regarding the heights of 10-year old American boys vs the heights of 10-year old-American girls.
Say, you would like to claim that 10-year old American girls are taller than 10-year old amercian boys.
The power is measures how likely it is that, when you finally conclude that girls are taller, you are correct.
