1). Though different cells have the same receptors, they can produce different cellular responses depending upon the sub type that is activated. Each receptor contains different subtypes. For example, the adrenergic receptors contain, alpha 1, alpha, beta 1, beta 2, and beta 3 receptors. The stimulation of alpha 1 receptors cause smooth muscle contraction, but the stimulation of beta 2 receptors causes bronchial smooth muscle relaxation. Though the neurotransmitter acting is same in both the situation, the receptor structure and the secondary signaling is different.
