My equation is -2/9=x5/6, I need help solving this.

Solution

This is a weird set-up, usually the x is after the 5/6. This is a proportion (2 fractions that are equal). With proportions you can always use cross multiplication and divide. Multiply the numerators with the opposite denominators and set them equal to each other. Therefore: (-2)(6) and (9)(5x), we get -12 = 45x. Then divide by 45 to each side and you get -12/45 = x. Reduce the fraction and I like to place the x first.
x = -4/15
