3. Compute the melt rate of a snowpack in a partly forested area in cm/day if the rainfal intensity is 8 cm/day (advective heat from rain), Ta = 6°C, Ts-00C,U-3m/sec, D,- 5.74 J/mS°C, De 0.2 J/m\' Pa. Assume Q, and Qi to be negligible, the air is saturated, and the thermal quality 0 1.0.

Solution

To determine

Compute the melt rate of snowpack in a party forested area in cm/day

Solution:-

Given information:

Concept Used

M =H/80B , M = melt(mm) ,H= heat , B = thermal quality

snow pack melt rate= M = C[.09 + (.029 + .00504v + .007P) (Ta – TF)]

M = melt (inches/day)

v = wind speed (miles/hour) 50 feet above the snow surface

Ta = air temperature (°F) ,TF = freezing temperature (°F, allowed to vary from 32 °F for spatial and temporal fluctuations)

Td = dewpoint temperature (°F)

P = rainfall (inches/day)

C = coefficient to account for variations

CALCULATION:-

heat is taken 60-90% then ,avg (60+90)/2 =75

M= H/80*B = 75/80*1 =0.938mm

from formula M = C(T-32) , T=60C converts T=42.80F

0.938 = C*(42.8 -32) ,C= 0.087

From , Formula =snow pack melt rate= M = C[.09 + (.029 + .00504v + .007P) (Ta – TF)]

0.087[0.09+(0.029+0.0504 *6.710+0.07*0.314961)(1.8(6-0))] =0.060inch/day

show we are calculate in the term of mm/day =1.524mm/day

 3. Compute the melt rate of a snowpack in a partly forested area in cm/day if the rainfal intensity is 8 cm/day (advective heat from rain), Ta = 6°C, Ts-00C,U-
