6. What is polychromatic

7. How does light affect Mitochondiria - biochemical pathways

8. How does light affect cell membrane (specifically IR)

9. How deep does each light penetrate ( this will tell what you light works where and what effect it has

10. What is photobiomodulation and how does it differ from LLLT?

Solution

6. Polychromatic refers to two or more varying colours or multicoloured.

7. The citric acid cycle, electron transport chain and oxidative phosphorylation occurring in mitochondria are light dependent.

8. Infrared light excites cells by changing their electrical capacitance. The IR Pulses are absorbed by water which produces a local rise in temperature. This heating reversibly alters electrically capacitance of the plasma membrane depolarising the target cell. The heat from IR light penetrate deeper and more efficiently.

9.Quantum mechanical theory states that light energy is composed of discrete packets of electromagnetic energy or photons. The photon\'s energy depends on its wavelength. Inside the living tissue either absorption of the photon occurs or it is scattered. Scattered photons will eventually be absorbed or will escape from the tissue in the form of diffuse reflection. The photons that are absorbed interact with an organic molecule or chromophore located within the tissue.

10. Photobiomodulation, is an emerging medical and veterinary technique in which exposure to low-level laser light or light emitting diodes stimulate cellular function leading to beneficial clinical effects.

LLLT uses light to stimulates cell and tissue responses. Both photomodulation and LLLT require exogenous chromophores and/or the use of engineered light-activated chemical switches. LLLT, on the other hand, utilizes endogenous chromophores with low- dose illumination delivered at the target site.
