The circuit presented in class does not have a clock. Give a basic idea where an oscilator should be placed and describe in sufficient detail how it drives the processor forward. You do not need to provide a detailed gate-level circuit, but you should place it in the existing circuit diagram and explain how it works by giving an example how it changes activations in the circuit.
Solution
The different type of Oscillators like Crystal Oscillators, RC oscillators are connected to the main Clock. The main clock connects to the CPU.
So Oscialltor will fall apart from the diagram. It will give clock and oscillation to the CPU [ALU and CU comprised ]. The clock rate will be determined by the Oscillator and then CPU will signa to all parts including to whereever it required lets says CU , and then CU will extracts information from memory i.e it will give contol to MBR and MAR as well as IE and if required will consult ALU .
Hence the clock rate of CPU is defined by how many clock cyces CPU genarates per second.
Thanks, I hope it clarifies. Let me know if there is anything.
