Explain how insulin and glucagon hormones create affect gluc
Explain how insulin and glucagon (hormones) create affect glucose levels (what triggers them to act, where does this happen, what kind of cells)?
(The response must be long and very detailed, naming cells and processes and defining terms involved... at least a page long. Thank you!)
Solution
Answer
Both the two hormones, insulin and glucagon are secreted from the beta cells of pancrease.
When the glucose levels are increased in the blood, the glucose triggers the pancreas to secrete insulin. The insulin converts the excess glucose into glycogen by the process called glycogenesis.
When the gblood glucose levels are very low, this condition triggers the pancrease to secrete glucagon. The glucagon stimulates live break down the glycogen into glucose by the process called glycogenolysis.
This type of two opposite mechanisms are called negative feedback. By the help of two hormones, the homeostasis of glucose levels are maintained.
