Dr. Gupta is an endocrinologist and has been working in the field for 20 years. You have been interning with her for three weeks and have seen patients with Addison\'s disease, neonatal diabetes, and Hashimoto\'s disease, among others. It is 8:oo am on Monday and you check Dr. Gupta\'s schedule and see that there are two patients scheduled this morning. Patient #1: Jorge Alvarez Dr. Gupta meets with Jorge and you learn the following information. Jorge is a 45-year old male. He works as an accountant and has three daughters. Jorge has been a smoker for 20 years, but has been attempting to quit. His diet consists of about half home cooked meals and half fast food meals, and his favorite beverage is extra sweet ice tea. He has intentions to exercise, but his desk job keeps him pretty stationary during the day. He has recently been taking the weekends with his daughters. Over the past few months, Jorge has been extremely thirst has experienced some tingling in his legs, and has been urinating frequently. He has also felt extremely tired. Recently, he noticed a sore on his leg that has not been healing quickly and seems irritated. His family doctor ordered some quick labs, and then referred him to Dr. Gupta.
