A survey of male university students asked Ideally how many
A survey of male university students asked: “Ideally, how many sexual partners would you like to have in the rest of your life?”. The mean answer was 64. However, the median was 1. How would you explain this discrepancy?
Solution
There could be a lot of 1\'s in the data set, so that the middle entry when you order them is 1.
However, probably, to the right of the median, there could be very high answers, like 1,000, for example. That would pull the mean greatly, like the one we have.
