Use the Remainder Theorem to find f12 for fx 2x4 5x3 x2 3

Use the Remainder Theorem to find f(-1/2) for f(x) = 2x^4 - 5x^3- x^2 + 3x + 2

Solution

f(x) = 2x^4-5x^3-x^2+3x+ 2

according to remainder theorem if we divide f(x) by x+1/2 we get

f(x) = (x+1/2) * q(x) + r(x)

f(-1/2) = 2(-1/2)^4 - 5(-1/2)^3 - (-1/2)^2 + 3(-1/2) + 2

f(-1/2) = 1/8 + 5/8 - 1/4 - 3/2 = 1

the remainder is 1
