Refer to the solar radiation curves for 52 degree N. A solar facility is to be located at this latitude on a flat. horizontal piece of land of size 25m times 10m using solar panels of 23% efficiency. It is designed to capture 80% of the available solar energy and convert this to a storage system with a conversion efficiency of 92%. The storage system is to be designed to store up to 5 days of captured energy. What is the minimum energy capacity of the storage system?

Solution

here the equation to calculate the electricity generated from solar panels:

P = GHI * S * n

= 52 * 25 * 10 * 0.23

= 2990 W

GHI (Wm2 ) is the global horizontal irradiation at the location of solar panels,

• S (m2 ) is the total area of solar panels, and •

is the solar conversion efficiency of the PV cells.

now the Efficiency is 80 % and 92% so it is

Pstorage = 0.80 * 0.92 * 2990 = 2200W

now capacity = p * t = 2200*5 = 11 KW is answer

 Refer to the solar radiation curves for 52 degree N. A solar facility is to be located at this latitude on a flat. horizontal piece of land of size 25m times 1
