Which of the following is correct about the endosymbiont the

Which of the following is correct about the endosymbiont theory? Both chloroplasts and mitochondria have a single membranous layer. It was first developed by Robert Hooke in 1695. Both answers A & B are correct It states that mitochondria and chloroplasts are remnants from the phagocytosis of ancient bacteria. Both answers A & C are correct

Solution

The endosymbiotic theory relies upon the fact that primitive bacteria lived in close association with large cells inside their body as endo-symbionts. The close association was of symbiotic in nature because both the cells were helpful to each other. A classical example for this is residence of mitochondria-like bacteria in large primitive eukaryotic cells. The mitochondria-like bacteria provided energy to the host cell and in return, the host cell provided shelter and safety to the mitochondria-like bacteria. This theory was first proposed by Lynn Margulis in1967.

Thus, from the above explanation, it can be seen that choice D is correct.
